Davidson Town Board members received an update Tuesday evening from the Red Line consultants.
Residents can expect to have access to some new functionality on the Red Line Regional Rail website by next Monday that allows them to see how they will be financially impacted by the project and learn if they are in the defined benefit district. What they won't be allowed to see is how the project impacts their town financially compared to the other towns involved.
An interactive map will be available where users can look parcel by parcel to see whether or not they will be impacted by the proposed Special Assessment District (SAD) additional tax. These maps have been updated from the ones used in the original plan when it was determined that the various municipalities had not used a uniform approach to determine what was "in" and what was "out".
The various Town staff have received data for their own municipality and are reviewing "beta" versions of the interactive maps. The reviews are planned to be done by end of week so the new maps can go live on the website on Monday.
When asked if the detailed data for the entire Unified Benefit District would be released, Katherine Henderson of KKH Consulting said it would not. Releasing the entire 2000 parcel Benefit District would allow for comparison of financial impacts between municipalities which would not be conducive to the spirit of a unified project.

From the success of the economic studies that showed the NASCAR Hall of Fame would result in $56 million per year of profit to the city of Charlotte, or light rail was going to be a bonanza, we hope our civic leaders have learned economic studies can be constructed to give predetermined results. Dividing the study into parts like this makes it more difficult to tell the numbers just don't add up. The contractors and developers putting up a good fight to siege our money.
