Something on the beaten path...

As part of DUMC's "Great Day of Service", the Davidson Community Garden on Potts street got underway in earnest on Saturday.  Now in its third year and fully built out, the garden is set to donate an increased amount of food to those in need.  It's one of the  unique gems of living in Davidson that residents should check out this spring and summer.


Much work had already been done by Scouts and other volunteers doing some winter cleanup and weeding, but this annual event by DUMC marks the unofficial kick-off of the season.  The initial garden was built 2 years ago as part of this event with a significant expansion done last year.  The project receives support from DUMC and is on land leased from the College.   Much of the materials are donated including soil, mulch, and many transplants form the north county jail.

GDoS Volunteers for the Day

Last year, the garden donated over 1400 lbs of fresh produce to the food pantry at the Ada Jenkins center.  This year, the effort hopes to reach a goal of an even ton - 2000 lbs.  The garden's motto is "tend a little, take a little, share a lot." 

If you want to learn more stop by one of the regular Saturday work sessions at 9am.  No experience required.  Additional work sessions will happen during the week as the growing season progresses.
